NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A 57-year-old woman was killed in a house fire in east Nashville on Monday night.

Metro Police have tentatively identified the victim as Carol Malia Tucker, and the Medical Examiner's Office will use medical records to confirm her identity.

Tucker died in the fire that broke out around 9 p.m. at the home on Carter Avenue. Her body was found by fire crews in the right front room of the house.

One neighbor told NewsChannel 5 he heard screaming from across the street, noticed flames coming from the front of the home, and tried to save the woman trapped inside.

"I went around the back, kicked the door in. By then it was just so hot you couldn't get in. I couldn't even hardly find my way out the little ways that I went in. My other neighbor was yelling for me, and I went toward him. That's was about all we could do; it was too late," said Tommy Luker.

Luker said he could hear the smoke detector going off inside the home.

Fire crews responded to the home after a rekindling just before 6 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters sprayed water on it to get it under control and keep it from spreading to neighboring homes.

The State Fire Marshal will determine the cause of the fire, but it was not believed to be intentionally set.
