Icy Conditions Possible Across Middle Tennessee

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Patchy ice and a light accumulation of snow are possible by late morning in Middle Tennessee.

The National Weather Service in Morristown said colder temperatures could change rain to freezing rain leading to icy areas in the Cumberland Plateau. Some areas could see a wintry mix including up to 2 inches of snow.

The wintry weather caused several school districts across the state to cancel classes.

As a precaution, the Metro Nashville Public School system announced closures for Monday due to the threat of icy conditions. Several other school systems around the area closed as a precaution. For a complete list of school closings, visit our Snow Watch Page.

The National Weather Service said ice can form quickly on wet roadways as temperatures drop below freezing.

Roadways were slick from overnight rain, and some areas reported icy patches. Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and Metro Public Works will be out monitoring the roadways and salting icy areas as needed.

Officials in Trigg County, Kentucky reported several collisions Sunday night due to the wintry weather conditions. A portion of Interstate 24 was closed near mile marker 60 after a collision involving two tractor trailers.

By Tuesday, another front will move through the area, bringing the possibility of thunderstorms to our area.
