MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Nashville Predators general manager David Poile was taken to a Minnesota hospital after being hit in the face with a puck during the team's morning skate.

CBS Sports reported Minnesota Wild beat writer Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune was on the scene and witnessed the incident.

Russo said players were passing boards to boards and a pass from defenseman Shea Weber ricocheted off the blade of a stick and into Poile's face.

Poile was actually in the hallway when the incident happened, and not even on the ice or the bench.

An official with the Predators confirmed the information to NewsChannel 5.

Poile was tended to by paramedics in the Predators' locker room. They said he was able to walk himself to a stretcher and sat down.

He suffered a black eye, bloody nose and was reported to be groggy.

Poile was being taken to an area hospital for closer examination. His exact condition was unknown.

The Predators were in town to play the Wild in their second-to-last game before a 19-day break for the Olympics.
