NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The snowy winter weather we've been seeing these past few months has driven down blood donations at the Red Cross.

The Tennessee Valley region of the Red Cross said it's had to cancel more than 40 blood drives in the past three months due to inclement weather. The chapter estimates it's lost out on about 1300 units of blood because of that.

Regionally, the Red Cross says it's in urgent need of Type O, Type A negative and Type B negative blood.

Nationwide, the American Red Cross has had to cancel 770 blood drives and it's lost more than 25,000 blood donations as a result of the snow and winter weather.
