JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Prosecutors saiid a former Selmer police officer has been sentenced to one year and a day in federal prison for violating the civil rights of an arrestee.

The U.S. attorney's office for West Tennessee said 39-year-old Christopher E. Reynolds was sentenced in Jackson last week.

Reynolds pleaded guilty in November to slamming a handcuffed arrestee to the floor of the McNairy Regional Hospital and striking him once in the face in April 2011.

According to information presented in court, Reynolds acknowledged that this assault was unreasonable, did not serve a legitimate law enforcement purpose and was not made by accident.
