Good Samaritan Injured While Assisting Driver On I-65

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – A good samaritan was injured Saturday while helping a motorist who experienced a possible medical emergency on Interstate 65 South.

Officials with the Franklin Police Department said the incident occurred just after 5 p.m. near Cool Springs Boulevard. 

Police said the collision happened when a 45-year-old female victim ran to the aid of a 19-year-old driver from Dickson who ran off the road and struck a pole after having a possible medical emergency. The man apparently a second episode and accelerated the truck, dragging the victim who was still clinging to the vehicle.

A portion of the interstate was briefly closed so a medical helicopter could land and transport the victim to the hospital.

The southbound lanes of the roadway remained closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. As a result of the crash, traffic could be seen backing up all the way to Concord Road.

The victim was transported by Vanderbilt LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was said to be in serious condition. The man was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

The roadway reopened at 8 p.m.
