Blood Drive Held In Honor Of Sumner Co. Detective Battling Cancer

Posted: Updated:

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. – A blood drive will be held Monday in honor of a Sumner County detective battling cancer.

The American Red Cross will hold the drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sumner County Emergency Services Facility in honor of Detective Lisa House, who has been a member of the Sumner County Sheriff's Office for nearly 30 years.

House has undergone several procedures, chemotherapy, and radiation since being diagnosed with cancer in August 2013. Throughout her treatment, she has needed several units of blood and a platelet transfusion.

"After being in my line of work, I knew the importance of donating blood was out there, but I really didn't understand until I needed it myself," said Detective House in a statement. "During my treatments, I was so weak I had to sit on a stool to brush my teeth. After I got that transfusion I was a different person the next day. It gave me new life."

A group of her colleagues at the Sumner County Sheriff's office are coordinating the blood drive.
