No Foul Play Suspected In Man's Death

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No foul play was suspected in the death of a man who was brought to a Nashville hospital late Wednesday evening.

Detectives with Metro Police's South Precinct said 24-year-old Shawn Ahearn, of Spring Hill, was brought to Southern Hills Medical Center shortly after midnight after he was found unresponsive at a home on Yelton Court.

His three friends told detectives that Ahearn appeared drunk and had taken multiple Valium pills before injecting himself with heroin he had brought to the home. He became unresponsive, and they took him to the hospital. After remaining there for some time, they returned to the home to get his phone and wallet before two returned to the hospital.

A subsequent police search of the apartment revealed several items of drug paraphernalia consistent with heroin use.  However, no illegal drugs were found in the residence.

The Medical Examiner's Office will await the results of toxicology testing before ruling on the exact cause.
