NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Detectives are investigating whether two overnight shooting deaths in separate parts of Nashville could be connected.

Officials with Metropolitan Nashville Police said 26-year-old Gregory Leon Johnson, of Joseph Avenue, was shot near Joseph Avenue and Grace Street around 10:30 p.m. Sunday. He then drove his vehicle down Joseph Avenue and crashed through a fence on Salvation Army property on Dickerson Pike.  The car stopped after it struck a concrete wall.

Johnson was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Around 2:15 a.m., neighbors along Chesapeake Circle in Madison heard gunshots. Police said 19-year-old Daresha Cole, of Antioch, was found shot to death inside a teal PT Cruiser.

Detectives have since learned Cole and Johnson were friends. A vehicle similar to the description of Cole's PT Cruiser was seen in the vicinity of Joseph Avenue and Grace Street around the time Johnson was shot.

Anyone with information on the shootings were asked to call Crime Stoppers at (615)74-CRIME. Tips can also be sent to Crime Stoppers by texting the word "CASH" along with the message to 274637 (CRIMES) or online at www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com.
