RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Richmond is establishing a day reporting center and taking other steps to reduce its jail population. The day reporting center will serve as an incarceration alternative for people convicted of certain crimes who are deemed to be low-risk offenders. It's scheduled to open March 3.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Two suspects are being sought in the fatal assault of an Old Dominion University student.
Norfolk police say 20-year-old Paul Johnson died yesterday afternoon, about 13 hours after he was hit in the head while walking along a street. Police have obtained warrants charging 21-year-old David William Grimm Jr. with second-degree murder. The second suspect, 20-year-old Christopher Chase Johnson, is charged with misdemeanor assault.
MAYVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - A Virginia man faces sentencing today for killing an upstate New York school superintendent over an online relationship he was having with the man's wife. A Chautauqua County jury in November convicted Anthony Taglianetti of second-degree murder in the 2012 death of Keith Reed, who headed the Clymer Central School District. Reed was shot three times outside his Clymer home.
