Crews Fighting Large Brush Fire In Smith County

SOUTH CARTHAGE, Tenn. – Firefighters responded to a large brush fire in Smith County. At one point several structures were threatened.

The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in a field near Highway 70 and McCall Street in South Carthage.

The exact acreage affected was not available, but officials from the Smith County Emergency Management Service said it was a very large area.

A large portion of the fire was under control and the structures were out of harm's way, but a large area of the fire was still out of control.

Aid was requested from Wilson County.
