NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A new charge has been filed against a man accused in the 2009 beating death of a man in west Nashville.

Paul Lloyd Davis II, age 47, was already charged with first degree murder in the killing of 53-year-old Michael Parsley, but on Wednesday was charged with abuse of a corpse.

The Davidson County Grand Jury returned a murder indictment against Davis on September 17, 2013, days after Parsley's remains were found in a shallow grave in rural Wayne County. Davis had already been jailed on drug charges when he was indicted.

Parsley's daughter reported him missing on April 20, 2009 after last hearing from him 10 days earlier.

Investigators believe Davis beat Parsley to death sometime between April 10 and April 12, 2009 in a West Nashville alley. Detectives then think Davis transported the body to Wayne County. Davis and Parsley were reportedly acquaintances.

The new charge alleges Davis abused Parsley after he was already dead. An affidavit said the medical examiner found that two stab wounds in the victim's chest were in the shape of a cross. One witness told detectives that Davis stabbed Parsley after he was already dead, and another witness said Davis admitted to cutting him up after his death.

The affidavit alleges two others were involved.

Davis remains jailed on $300,000 bond with a court date on the new charge set for March 5.
