JACKSBORO, Tenn. (AP) - An east Tennessee jury has found a former Campbell County High School student guilty of reckless homicide for killing an assistant principal.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1cfJw0g ) is reporting that jurors rejected a charge of first-degree murder and also acquitted Kenneth Bartley Jr. of two charges of attempted murder.
Bartley was 14 years old when he shot and killed assistant principal Ken Bruce in November of 2005. Two other assistant principals were wounded.
Bartley took the stand in his own defense this week and told a jury that he felt horrible after the shooting. He told jurors that he only brought the gun to school that day so he could trade it for drugs. He said he panicked and started shooting when school officials confronted him about the weapon.
