Two Suspects Charged With Theft Of ‘Redbox' Movies

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two suspects have been charged in connection with stealing hundreds of items from area Redbox locations.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 31-year-old Chiteka Thompson and 27-year-old Jonah Phillips have been charged with one count of felony theft.

Police said the suspects allegedly collaborated in a scheme to obtain the DVDs and CDs over a period from at least November 2012 through July 2013.

After Redbox reported the thefts, detectives said they used surveillance video from local retailers and transaction records from area pawnshops to identify the suspects.

The monetary loss to Redbox was said to be nearly $38,000.

Thompson has been booked into the Metro Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. Investigators said Phillips is currently being held in Williamson County on an unrelated matter and will be booked on the Nashville indictment in the near future.
