JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Jackson police are asking for the public's help to identify a body found burned beyond recognition outside a vehicle.

Police said fire officials were called Monday evening to a report of a brush fire in Jackson. Police said in a statement that firefighters found a burning car in a field and discovered the body right outside the vehicle after extinguishing the blaze.

Police said it appears to be the body of a male. The car appeared to be a newer model four-door Pontiac Grand Prix.

Witnesses told officers a man in a black Grand Prix had been driving in the area earlier in the day.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Jackson Police Department.
