FRANKLIN, Tenn. – More than 24 hours later, Interstate 65 southbound remains partially blocked in Williamson County after a single-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck.

The interstate finally reopened after a tractor trailer veered off the road Saturday and somehow slid down a steep embankment. The crash was reported around 5:20 p.m. at mile marker 61.

As a result of the wreck, traffic could be seen sitting at a standstill for miles.

The roadway was closed for much of Saturday evening through Sunday morning as crews worked to remove the semi from the marred ground.

Police advised motorists to avoid the area. During its peak congestion, traffic was diverted at the Peytonsville Road exit.

Sunday morning, officials had cleared the scene enough to open one lane of traffic to let motorists through.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the incident.

TDOT said the road is expected to fully reopen around 6 p.m. Monday.
