Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No charges have been filed in connection with a shooting late Saturday night south of downtown Nashville.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 18-year-old Jordan Garrett was shot and killed Saturday night in a vacant lot near the intersection of Maury and Fain Streets.

Police said 26-year-old John Washington Jr., of Clarksville, called police from a nearby gas station shortly after the shooting to report he had shot a man who had tried to rob him.

Officers heard gunshots in the area around 10:20 p.m., and found Garrett deceased.

Police said the Washington and a friend were confronted by Garrett, who appeared to be armed and demanded their belongings. He told police he fired shots and the pair fled the scene to call 911.

Both men were taken into custody for questioning before being released. The gun believed to have been used was recovered from Washington's car.

The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for further review.

Officials said the investigation remained ongoing.
