BGA Teacher At Center Of Child Porn Investigation

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Franklin Police are investigating a teacher at Battle Ground Academy after they received information regarding the possible possession of child pornography.

"There were some very specific points, and information, in the tip that we received and it was immediately determined to have some creditability," explained Sgt. Charlie Warner with the Franklin Police Department.

Police first learned of the allegation in February. Friday, detectives went to the teacher's home.

"Detectives executed a search warrant at this subject's residence, gathering items we're going to review forensically, with the use of special equipment," Sgt. Warner said.

BGA administrators willingly gave police the computer the teacher used while at school.

"They're working to determine if there are any contraband, illegal images of children, which is the focus of this investigation. Once those determinations are made we'll know what our next steps are," said Sgt. Warner.

The teacher is a 30-year employee of BGA. The interim head of school sent an email Monday to parents telling them the teacher is on administrative leave due to a pending investigation.

The administrator named the teacher in that email. Because police have not filed criminal charges, NewsChannel 5 is not releasing his name.

"We have been assured that no BGA students were impacted and that nothing being investigated occurred on either of our campuses," said interim head of school Randy Tucker said in a statement to the media.

School leaders did not learn about the police investigation until last week.

"The fact is, they were confident there was no one from the school that was involved, that we knew of in this case, and that no at that school, or children anywhere for that matter, where in any known immediate danger," Sgt. Warner said.

NewsChannel 5 went to the home of the teacher in question and he declined to speak about the investigation.
