I-40E Partially Reopens After Tractor Trailer Fire

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Interstate 40 eastbound has partially reopened following a tractor trailer fire on Friday morning.

White smoke could be seen pouring from the truck when the fire broke out at mile marker 218, near the Stewarts Ferry Pike exit, around 9:10 a.m.

Officials believe the fire started due to an issue with the brakes. The tractor trailer was hauling Easter items, and officials said that fueled the flames.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic was backed up for several miles as firefighters worked to get the blaze under control. Motorists were allowed through in the left lanes, and others were diverted off the Briley Parkway exit.

The left lanes were reopened, but the right lanes were to remain blocked until 2:30 p.m., according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
