Man Charged With Arson For Allegedly Setting Home On Fire

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was charged with arson for allegedly setting his east Nashville home on fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire at the home on S. 17th Street around 1 p.m.

Police officers were called to the scene after a witness said they saw someone leaving the scene right after the fire broke out. They found 31-year-old Sribounthai Keopanya nearby, and he told the officer that he lived in the home that was on fire.

Police determined there were five separate fire inside the home that caused structural damage as well as smoke damage throughout the home.

Detectives learned that Keopanya was the only one at home at the time of the fire, and family members said this was the second time in the past months that he has set fire to the home.

Keoponya was charged with arson along with criminal impersonation. Officers said he gave a false name when they first asked him.

His bond was set at $60,000.
