Former Room In The Inn Employee Pleads Guilty To Theft

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A former employee at Room In The Inn pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing from her employer.

Tammi Newton entered the guilty plea to a theft charge in Davidson County Criminal Court. She was sentenced to 10 years, but will only serve one calendar year in jail with the rest on Community Corrections.

As part of the plea, she must pay $71,407 in restitution to Room In The Inn. She paid an initial payment of $500 Thursday in court. Newton will also write a letter of apology.

Room In the Inn provides shelter, emergency services, and transitional programs for the homeless in Nashville.

Newton was indicted last summer for having stolen from the agency during her employment from late 2010 through March 2013.
