Metro Council Approves Bike Parking Law

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The future of Nashville's AMP project is still in question, but Metro Council members took another step to reduce congestion on city streets Tuesday night.

Metro Council gave the final green light to an ordinance requiring any new development make sure bikers have a place to park as well.

The sponsor of the ordinance says right now, since businesses aren't required to provide bike parking, bikers are chaining their rides to sign and fence posts.

"This is just another step toward making Nashville a more bike-friendly city, and encourage more people to ride their bikes," said Metro Councilman Peter Westerholm.

The ordinance applies to any new construction or developments expanding more than 50 percent within what is referred to as the Urban Core.
