72-Year-Old Man Critically Injured In South Nashville House Fire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 72-year-old man was critically injured after being trapped in his burning home in south Nashville on Friday morning.

The fire broke out around 7:10 a.m. at a home on Paragon Mills Road near Citrus Drive. Firefighters rescued the man from the kitchen the burning structure.

Firefighters had to fight their way inside to get to him because the home was locked up.

"They had to deal with the heat, and heavy smoke, the main priority was to search the house and find anyone inside," said Walter Demonbreun with the Nashville Fire Department.

The man suffered serious burns and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition. His name was not immediately released.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly, but the home suffered major damage. 

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
