Man Charged In Deadly Shooting At Apartments

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly shooting at a a south Nashville apartment complex last week.

Eric Orlando Carter, 22, was charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of 22-year-old Michael Deandre Pillow, who was shot in the breezeway of an apartment building at the Summerwind Apartments on Bell Road.

Police said Carter and Pillow had an argument prior to the shooting. Pillow was at a relative's apartment on the night of May 6 when police said Carter called out Pillow and challenged him to a fight, according to an affidavit.

When Pillow came downstairs into the breezeway of the apartment building, Carter allegedly got an AK-47 out of a gold SUV in the parking lot.

Carter and two other men allegedly ambushed Pillow, opening fire and striking him multiple times. He died at the scene.

When police got on the scene, they said Carter’s apartment door was open and he was nowhere to be found. The day after Pillow’s murder police named Carter as someone sought for questioning, but did not immediately name him as a suspect.

Carter’s bond was set at $1 million.

At the time of his murder, Pillow was on parole after being convicted of attempted second-degree murder in 2012. In that case, he received an eight-year sentence.

The other two gunmen have not yet been identified.
