Four Injured In Three-Car Crash In Murfreesboro

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Four people were injured in a three-car crash that shut down the southbound lanes of a busy road in Murfreesboro on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred on Northwest Broad Street near Battlefield Parkway just before 6:30 a.m. Sky 5 HD showed one of the vehicles overturned in a wooded area next to the roadway, with another mangled vehicle in the middle of the two lanes of traffic.

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department crews had to extricate one victim from one of the vehicles.

Officials said a Dodge Caravan being driven by Jeffrey Barrett, age 34, was traveling northwest, when he somehow lost control of the vehicle and struck another car. The van then went over the median into the southbound lanes, and was struck on the passenger side by a Honda Odyssey, driven by 57-year-old Martha Carpenter with Chester Carpenter, age 61, and two teenagers also inside the vehicle.

Barrett and Chester Carpenter were taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where they were said to be in critical condition. Martha Carpenter and the two 18-year-olds in her vehicle were taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt with minor injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was not hurt.

The southbound lanes of the roadway were blocked for a few hours while investigators conducted their investigation.
