NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Hundreds of people gathered inside Lipscomb University's Allen Arena Sunday to remember coaching legend, Don Meyer.

Around campus and on the basketball court Meyer was simply known as "Coach," and former players gathered to share stories about the man who helped shape them both on and off the court.

"He would often say, ‘you need someone in your life who cares enough to tell you the truth’ and he cared," recalled Greg Glenn who played for Meyer during the 1980s.

Meyer spent 24 years at the helm of the men's basketball team, bringing home a national championship title in 1986.

"He taught me I had to surrender to something bigger than myself, I had to surrender to the team," former player Richard Taylor told the crowd.

Meyer lost his six year battle with cancer on May 18, 2014.

He was 69-years-old.
