MADISON, Tenn. – Residents in Madison have decide to speak out after a shooting in their neighborhood last week.

While one house was specifically targeted early Thursday morning, at least one other home was hit with a stray bullet in the gunfire. That bullet ended up just inches from where Bette Petway was sleeping.

With now two shootings in the neighborhood in just a year, the latest shooting has left Bette and her daughter considering taking up a neighborhood watch in the area, because they said, the risk of doing nothing is too great.

“I could have lost my mom and I just don’t know what I would have done had that happened,” said Michelle Pleasant, Bette’s daughter. “I keep thinking about that.”

Police said five people were inside the home that was specifically shot at on Thursday, littering the home with more than 30 bullet holes. Two of the people inside were said to have been young children.
