Drugs Involved In Deadly Weekend Crash In Rutherford County

Posted: Updated:
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. –  The Tennessee Highway Patrol said charges are pending against the driver in Sunday morning's deadly crash in Rutherford County.

Kathleen Davenport was killed when the Chevrolet Tahoe she was a passenger in flipped several times on Interstate 24 near mile marker 70. The 26-year-old was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. and shut down the westbound lanes for several hours. The driver of the Tahoe, 31-year-old Blake Rutledge, allegedly lost control, drove into the median and over corrected causing the SUV to flip multiple times.

Rutledge was flown by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

THP investigators said charges are pending since there was evidence drugs played a role in the crash. It was unclear whether either victim was wearing a seatbelt.
