NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A crossing guard who served the Metro Nashville Public School System for more than 50 years was remembered during a memorial service Tuesday afternoon.

Janie Miller passed away last week at the age of 90. Those who knew her said she touched many young lives throughout her career.

"The kids at all the locations that she was stationed at loved her very much. She, too, many was a mother, an aunt, a grandmother [and] just a loving person,” said Retired Lt. William Cunningham with the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Mrs. Miller was even honored by Mayor Karl Dean and Police Chief Steve Anderson on the 60th anniversary of the crossing guard program.

Miller’s funeral was held at noon at Corinthian Baptist Church in Nashville. She is survived by her children and grandchildren.
