Animal Organization Hopes To Change Perception Of Dog Breed

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – A pit bull adoption event was held as part of a local animal organization’s mission to change the negative perception associated with the dog breed.

The Williamson County Animal Control and Adoption Center held the event, called Hogs and Dogs Saturday afternoon.

Residents were invited to check out custom Harley-Davidson bikes motorcycles, as well as pit bull-mixes up for adoption. At the shelter, organizers said pit mixes are treated the same way as any other dog.

"A lot of people think that all pit-bulls are aggressive. They think that they are just kind of mean dogs, but as you can see, Fred is a big cuddle bug, she's fantastic and that's true of a lot of our dogs here,” said Madison Shedd, a volunteer.

Each dog undergoes temperament and personality testing before being placed for adoption.

The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with new, extended hours on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
