Victim Identified In Center Hill Lake Drowning

Posted: Updated:
SMITHVILLE, Tenn. – The man who drowned Saturday afternoon at Center Hill Lake in DeKalb County has been identified.

Officials with the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency said 57-year-old Stephen R. Morris, of Collierville, drowned in an area of the lake near Cove Hollow Marina. Crews were dispatched to the scene around 4 p.m.

The TWRA said Morris was sitting on the back of his personal watercraft, which was attached to a house boat, when he somehow fell off the back of it and never resurfaced.

Divers from Putnam County recovered his body around 7:30 p.m. about a mile-and-a-half downstream.

Officials are also investigating the drowning of a 27-year-old man in Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville on Friday.

TWRA officials said Regan Jewett, of Nashville, was on a foam mat in the water and attempted to climb onto a personal water craft, when it somehow rolled over on top of him.
