The Jefferson Street Jazz & Blues Festival is in its 14th year and better than ever. On this episode of URBAN OUTLOOK we’ll tell you about the festival which will feature blues legend Denise LaSalle, among other amazing performers. Also, Sharon Hurt, the Executive Director of the Jefferson Street Untied Merchants Partnership, will join us to give an update on the amazing economic development of that area, including the construction of the new ball park. Then, what happened to the National Museum of African American Music? Even though there is not a physical building the museum is full force with different programs throughout the community. Did you know that in past years African American youth represent more that 60 percent of juveniles in secure detention centers? On this episode of URBAN OUTLOOK, April Eaton will look at the possible reasons for this disproportionate number. We are joined by attorney Merriel Bullock Neal, who is also the Clarksville Montgomery County Disproportionate Minority Contact Chairperson, to discuss ways to reduce these high numbers. They also talk about ways to reduce the numbers of all juveniles that come through the judicial system as a whole. Finally, they discuss how education, role models, and equitable treatment can make a huge impact in the lives of those youth. Be sure to watch to learn more.
