State Investigating Bill Heard Chevrolet

(Story created: 11/14/06)

The state is now investigating a local dealership following a NewsChannel 5 investigation.

Tuesday, state regulators spent several hours sifting through records at Bill Heard Chevrolet in Antioch.

Consumer investigator Jennifer Kraus exposed the problems.

The state is being very tight lipped about what is going on, but here's what we know.

From both inside sources at the state and at Bill Heard, regulators arrived earlier Tuesday and began examining records, conducting some sort of audit in the dealer's finance department.

The investigators are with the state Department of Commerce and Insurance -- and NewsChannel 5 has been told that it is no routine audit.

Instead, it was prompted by what we uncovered and showed you last week.

We found customers whose personal and financial information was routinely changed on loan applications without their knowledge -- all so they could qualify for car loans.

And that could be illegal.

A spokesman for the dealership told NewsChannel 5 that the company would fully cooperate with any investigation by regulators.
