What can be done for the excess skin in my upper eyelids and the bulges in my lower eyelids?
A person can look and feel better with the removal of excess upper eyelid tissue and lower eyelid bulges. The incisions are mostly hidden in the natural crease of the upper eyelid and inside the eyelid on the lower lids. This procedure is performed as an out-patient in our on-site surgery center in about 1 to 2 hours.
What other types of eyelid procedures are available to reduce the signs of aging?
Brow Lift can be performed which elevates the brow, diminishing the weight pushing down on the eyelid and can reduce central wrinkles. Laser resurfacing is dramatic in reducing lower eyelid wrinkles at the outside corners of the eyelids. The laser removes the old skin surface, tightens the underlying dermal layer and allows a new surface to heal. BOTOX injections can help relieve wrinkles between the brows and "crow's feet" beside the eyelids. This injection relaxes the muscles that tighten the skin and produce wrinkles.
What should I expect after an eyelid surgical procedure?
Our patients state that they are relatively pain free, except for some slight discomfort on the day of their procedure. The eyelids will be swollen and, usually, slightly black or blue for approximately 7 to 10 days after surgery. Cold soaks, as instructed by the physician, usually reduce this appearance. Many patients feel well enough to return to their normal routine within a few days, with only some slight bruising remaining.
Will my insurance cover these eyelid procedures?
Insurance will not cover any procedure which is considered cosmetic. In some instances, however, they will cover a procedure which Dr. Wesley or Dr. Klippenstein feel is reconstructive. This will be discussed with you at the time of your visit, after a complete examination and possible visual tests, here in the office. Payment is required prior to cosmetic surgery. We accept all major credit cards. Pricing for all procedures is available at the time of your visit.
What should I expect on my first consultation in the office?
Dr. Wesley or Dr. Klippenstein will discuss the indications, benefits, complications and pricing of individual surgeries. This consultation will include not only an examination, but also a discussion to determine your desires and expectations relative to what may be provided with surgery.
