NewsChannel 5 officially debuted its new look Sunday night after the Super Bowl. Along with the new HD status, NewsChannel 5 also debuted its new set.
One of the most exciting things about going HD is being able to present high definition newscasts from a brand new set.
The new set covers about 3,300 square feet of studio space. It gives NewsChannel 5 reporters and anchors improved storytelling tools.
They have more than a dozen locations to present news, weather, sports and interview segments.
Modern technology is mixed in with a comfortable, warm environment. The set is equipped with more than 20 high definition DLP, LCD and plasma screens.
Eighteen monitors behind the anchor desk will show live news feeds and live radar.
Nothing is as cool as the RP's, better known as rear projectors. Behind the set, the projectors can display anything on large video walls. The information is fed through the machine like any projector.
Within seconds they can show a live picture from Sky 5 or the latest radar, but most nights they will show moving video of the downtown Nashville skyline.
An HD monitor will demonstrate any breaking news or weather graphic at the news desk.
NewsChannel 5 wanted to continue a standard of excellence by being the first station in Nashville to provide local news in HD. HD is the future, and it's now the present for your news and information leader.
