Kris Kristofferson To Receive CMT Award

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Singer/songwriter Kris Kristofferson is going to be honored by Country Music Television.

The cable channel is going to give him the Johnny Cash Visionary Award.

Cash's daughter, Rosanne Cash, will present the honor during the April 16 awards show in Nashville.

The 70-year-old Kristofferson will join previous winners Hank Williams Jr., Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, the Dixie Chicks and his late friend Johnny Cash.

Kristofferson explored themes of isolation in "Sunday Morning Coming Down" and "Help Me Make It Through the Night" and evoked the restless spirit of the times in "Me and Bobby McGee."

His later songs took a political tone, questioning U.S. policy in Central America and Iraq.
