The Radio-Television News Directors Association has recognized three NewsChannel 5 investigations with regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, named after the legendary CBS broadcaster.
Those investigations receiving Murrow Awards are:
NewsChannel 5 Investigates: Bill Heard Chevrolet -- Recognized as the best in the investigative reporting category, this project exposed questionable sales and financing practices inside the company that bills itself as the World's Largest Chevy Dealer.
Consumer investigator Jennifer Kraus led the effort, along with photojournalist Bryan Staples and producer Kevin Wisniewski.
Those projects were recognized as the best in RTNDA's Region 8, covering Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
No other TV station in Middle Tennessee won a 2007 regional award.
Regional winners automatically become eligible for the national awards competition, which will be judged in early June. The national Edward R. Murrow Awards will be presented in October at the RTNDA Awards Dinner in New York.
RTNDA has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
