Grizzlies Owner No Longer Taking Bids For Team

(AP) MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley says he's taken the team off the market, but he would still sell if the right buyer came along.

Heisley, a Chicago billionaire who owns a 70 percent share, said his focus now is on "getting re-engaged" in the franchise and making decisions as if he's the owner for the long haul.

Last year, Heisley announced former national champion Duke basketball player Brian Davis as the team's owner-to-be. But Davis and former teammate Christian Laettner failed to attract enough financial backing to close the deal.

The Grizzlies made three straight playoff appearances before plummeting to an NBA-worst record this season.

Heisley told The Commercial Appeal newspaper that he hopes to remake the team and return it to the playoffs.
