New Details About Why Teacher Slept With Student

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A former inmate at the Warren County Jail said he received letters from a former schoolteacher that explain why she got involved with one of her students.

Pamela Rogers had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy.

Josh Patrick, who was convicted of check fraud, was at the jail at the same time as Rogers.

In 2005, Rogers pleaded no contest to having sex with a 13-year-old.

Rogers has not granted any interviews since going to prison last year because of a gag order.

But NewsChannel 5 obtained a copy of a detailed letter Patrick said Rogers passed him in the jail.

In it, she finally tries to explain why she did it.

"This is exactly the way I got it," Patrick said, demonstrating how he received a folded note from Rogers, who was nicknamed "the teacher," from her nearby cell. "She just slid it under the door."

Patrick said he knew of the Rogers' high-profile case.

"I said tell me why did you do it? Why did you have sex with that little boy," Patrick said in an interview with NewsChannel 5.

He said a few days later he received a note slipped under his cell door with details only Rogers could know about her case. For some reason, she opened up, Patrick said.

"She wanted to tell somebody and it made her feel better," he said.

In the letter Rogers said, "Basically I was depressed and totally vulnerable from my broken marriage."

Rogers then explained why she was drawn to the student.

"' He was sweet to me ... asked me how my day was and looked in my eyes, things my ex had never cared to do. It wasn't about sex,'" according to the letter.

Rogers returned to jail when she violated her probation by sending cell phone video and photographs to the boy.

"'He asked for all the photos. I'd have done anything for him ... Whatever he wanted,'" according to the letter.

Patrick said Rogers ended the letter saying that she ruined her life.

"'I've lost too much and hurt too many people," Patrick read aloud from the letter.

And the letter said Rogers learned her lesson the hard way.

"' I'm just a normal girl that wants to be loved and wanted to feel special. I just made the wrong decisions.'"

Rogers is currently serving her 8-year term in a state prison. Rogers and Patrick were together at the Warren County jail in July.

Why did Patrick share the letter? Rogers has never spoken in detail publicly about the crime and Patrick, like other people, wondered about her motivation.

He said he thought the letter might help explain why it happened.

Rogers' victim is now nearly 16-years-old. He has received counseling since her arrest to deal with what happened.
