Crime of the Week: June 26, 2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Crime Stoppers in Nashville is offering a reward of $1,000 for clues leading to the arrest and conviction in a snatch and grab at a Green Hills department store.

Investigators said on March 31 two men grabbed expensive purses at the Macy's at the Mall at Green Hills. Police said the pair ran from the ladies department and out the door to a waiting car. The crime was caught on tape.

Police believe the men also may be committing crimes in other parts of the state.

"After looking around one of them called on a cell phone," said Metro detective Jim Lambert. "Apparently, he was talking to someone outside it appeared."

Police believe the phone call may have been made to someone driving a get-away car in the parking lot.

"They were seen jumping into a four-door Nissan Altima," Lambert said. "It was light blue or silver with a temporary tag in the back window."

Police believe the same men hit stores in Jackson and Memphis.

"They have been seen in the Bellevue area and the Madison area also, so they may be from Nashville and just going to other cities also," Lambert said.

Police said someone might recognize them from video captured by security cameras.

"They got thousands of dollars worth of property in a matter of seconds.  I'm sure they've got a buyer or they're selling in a certain area. We just don't know," Lambert said.

If anyone has information related to this case, police encourage them to call Crime Stoppers at 74-Crime. Information that results in arrest and prosecution of the suspects could earn callers up to $1,000.

Callers can remain anonymous.
