MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have called up left-hander Manny Parra from AAA Nashville, but they haven't activated him yet.

The Brewers are faced with a possible pitching shortage.

Reliever Chris Spurling left the club Sunday because of a family emergency. The Brewers aren't sure when he'll be back.

Starter Ben Sheets also has an injured finger and is expected to have an MRI Monday. He left his start Saturday in the fourth inning after spraining the top joint on the middle finger of his pitching hand.

Sheets' next scheduled start is Thursday against Arizona.

In four starts with Nashville, Parra is 3-1 with a 1.73 ERA.
