NASHVILLE, Tenn.- An innocent man is gunned down and killed at a South Nashville apartment complex.
He was looking out his apartment window when he was shot.
Now Metro Police need help finding his killers.
The shooting happened early in the morning on April 18 at the Dominion House Apartments on Linbar Drive in South Nashville.
Police said two men sitting in the parking lot stopped two other men from breaking into a car.
In the same apartment complex, Jose Miguel Avendano was fast asleep until he heard something an hour later. As he looked out the window, Avendano was shot in the neck.
Police said the car thieves had returned. They fired random shots at apartments and hit Avendano.
Police said he was not involved in the earlier altercation.
Avendano died a few minutes later at a local hospital.
Now, police are hoping someone will come forward with information about the shooters.
"They shot into an apartment complex with no regard for public safety," said Metro Police Detective David Achord. "They were mad because they got caught breaking into a car and they wanted to retaliate."
Police said the shooters left in either a white or silver vehicle. Witnesses said they were Asian men in their 20's.
"Some witnesses may be reluctant to come forward because of their immigration status, and I would tell them that is not an issue in this case," Achord said.
Police said the information about the murder is more important.
If anyone has information that might help police solve the murder of Jose Miguel Avendano, they should call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
