Crime Of The Week: Oct. 2

JOELTON, Tenn. - Metro police need help identifying a suspected serial bank robber whose actions were caught on tape.

Police believe he's responsible for at least four bank robberies in Middle Tennessee.

He is suspected in a robbery that took place at on Friday, Aug. 24 at the Sun Trust Bank branch at 7185 Whites Creek Pike.

A customer walked up to a teller and handed her a note demanding money. 

"He has a satchel bag wrapped around his right shoulder and manipulates it and holds it as though he's got a weapon behind it," said Keith Sutherland, a Metro detective.

The teller gave him the cash and he walked out the door.

Witnesses told police the man walked behind the bank to a softball park and got into a van.

"He got into the passenger sliding door to an older model Dodge Caravan, either gray or older silver in color," Sutherland said. "There was a Caucasian male operating the vehicle."

The robbery was captured on the bank's surveillance camera. Police said the man is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs close to 140 pounds. He looked to be in his 20s.

Investigators believe still frames captured from the video will help someone identify the man.

"At this point in time we believe he is responsible for a total of four bank robberies in the middle Tennessee area and we hope to identify him and locate him as soon as possible," Sutherland said.

If anyone knows the man or has information about the robbery, they should call Crime Stoppers.

"As he implied that he had a weapon, we hope to locate him and arrest him before he hurts someone," Sutherland said.

The number to call is 74-CRIME. Tips could earn callers up to $1,000. Callers may remain anonymous.
