Crime Of The Week: Oct. 9

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Crime Stoppers needs the public's help to solve a 20-year-old murder case.

Someone killed 21-year-old Christopher Mundy in November 1986.

Police are still looking for his killer.

Cold case detectives are reviewing evidence in the case.

During the of the Vanderbilt University-Tennessee football game, two rabbit hunters found a body in the woods near Percy Priest Lake. It was Nov. 22, 1986.

Police said someone shot Mundy to death. They think whoever killed him shot him in another location and dumped his body in the woods.

"We originally or initially had a couple of suspects," Bill Pridemore, a Metro detective. "That turned out to go no where."

Police did not find Mundy's vehicle until more than a month later.

Someone found the brown Dodge Daytona at the Tulip Grove Apartments on Lebanon Road. Police said no one knows how it got there.

"Mr. Mundy hadn't been in Nashville very long, and he hadn't established many friends, so he wasn't acquainted with many people," Pridemore said.

Mundy moved to Nashville from Wayne, Ill., about a year earlier. He lived at the Tennessee Ridge Apartments on Murfreesboro Road.

Police said they've interviewed the four or five people who knew him, but the interviews yielded no clues.

Mundy was last seen at a Bennigan's Restaurant on Murfreesboro Road two days before the hunters discovered his body.

"We had a couple of witnesses who said they think they saw Mr. Mundy being put in the back of a truck that we're still actively investigating," Pridemore said.

Police said other than that, little is known about Mundy from the time he was at Bennigan's to when hunters found him.

If anyone knows anything about the murder, they should call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Callers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
