NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Someone stabbed a woman to death inside her Hermitage apartment.

Police are looking for anyone who may have seen the victim in the hours before she was killed.

In September, a young woman returned to her apartment and found her mother stabbed to death on the floor.

She called for an ambulance, but it was too late.

Police pronounced 44-year-old Melissa Moores dead at the scene.

"Our investigation reveals that a vehicle belonging to the victim was taken by the perpetrator," said Metro Police Sgt. John Patton.

It was 3:30 a.m. Sept. 25. Moores lived with her daughter in the Pine Brook Apartments at 1005 Hickory Hill Lane.

More than three weeks later someone found the car in East Nashville.

"East officers received a call of a suspicious vehicle. They came and investigated. They realized it was the vehicle connected to our homicide in Hermitage," said Jeff Sells, a Metro detective.

Police are not sure who left the Chrysler New Yorker on North Ninth Street near the intersection of Marina Street.

"What we need right now is anybody who had contact with this vehicle or with somebody driving the vehicle," Patton said. "They need to come forward and give that information."

Police said it's possible the person who dropped the car off did not know it was connected to the murder.

"We encourage anyone that saw anybody involved with this vehicle whether hanging around it, getting out of it, driving it, to call Metro Police with that information," Sells said.

If anyone can help police they should call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Callers may remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward if their information results in the arrest and prosecution of a suspect.
