NASHVILLE, TENN. - Metro police need the public's help solving a double murder in West Nashville.

The crime happened at a busy car wash in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon.

Police said several people should have witnessed the crime at NCW car wash on Charlotte Avenue near 40th Avenue North.

"It's a busy area," said Robert Peterson of the Metro Police Department. "There were other customers washing their vehicles at the time this occurred."

Witnesses saw a man walk up to a sports utility vehicle around 4 p.m. on Nov. 3.

Steven Oden and Ronnie Carver, Jr., were cleaning it out.

"Witnesses described a single suspect approached the driver, Mr. Oden, and they had a struggle over the weapon," Peterson said.

The weapon was a pistol.

The suspect shot Oden. Then he shot Carver several times, walked around the SUV and shot Carver again.

Carver died at the scene. Oden died at a local hospital.

"We're extremely lucky no one else got hit," Peterson said. "There are other businesses around there. There is a cash advance beside the car wash and an Auto Zone across the street."

Police are not talking about a motive, but the men were apparently in an altercation a few days prior to the shootings.

Witnesses told police the gunman was a black male in his late teens or early 20's. He is 5 feet 6 inches tall and had a medium build.

He wore cornrows in his hair with shorter braids toward the back.

He wore a black hooded sweat shirt atop a black shirt.

Police said he's extremely dangerous.

"It almost seemed like it was for pleasure," Peterson said. "He didn't run. The guy calmly walked as he was shooting the two suspects."

If anyone has any information that can help solve the murders, they should call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

If the information results in the arrest and prosecution of a suspect, the caller could earn up to $1,000.
