JACKSON, Tenn. - Officials closed Interstate 40 east of Jackson Tuesday night after 60 vehicles were involved in two separate incidents.
Strong storms moved through West Tennessee. There were several reports of tornadoes in the area.
I-40 westbound was closed around 9 p.m. after a vehicle overturned at mile marker 68. TEMA spokesperson Donnie Smith said 20 semi trucks were involved in the crash.
As of 2 a.m., eastbound traffic was still partially blocked. Westbound traffic was being diverted to alternate routes.
The crash was expected to be cleared by 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Smith said another 40 tractor trailers were involved in another crash on I-40 eastbound just an hour later near exit 80.
Both westbound and eastbound lanes were partially blocked, with one lane opened in each direction. The crash was expected to be cleared by 2 a.m.
No word on any injuries.
