NASHVILLE, Tenn. - People attending a Nashville Predators game were advised not to leave the Sommet Center because of damaging winds moving through the city.
The Tuesday night game against the Hurricanes had just ended. It was the professional hockey franchise's fourth straight home win.
Tornado sirens sounded after 9 p.m. Nashville was under a tornado warning at the time.
Dirk Plantinga, a former NewsChannel 5 employee, said fans were alerted about the storm. Minutes later, they were informed that they should not leave the building because of the weather.
Attendees were later told to move to the north end of the arena by the pro shop. This is near the main entrance of the arena, located in downtown Nashville.
While there, people monitored the weather on television in one of the arena's concourses.
"The game's over, but they're just keeping us safe inside," Plantinga said.
Attendance was about 14,000.
