HARTSVILLE, Tenn. - No one was killed in a huge explosion at the Columbia Gulf Transmission Co. plant.
Flames shot hundreds of feet in the air at the natural gas pumping plant Tuesday night.
People could see and hear the fire for miles.
It took about two hours for the fire to burn itself out.
Witnesses said a tornado made a direct hit on the plant.
Winds knocked over tombstones at a nearby cemetery.
No one was hurt at the plant.
There are 10 full-time employees at the plant.
No word on when there will be gas flowing through this port of the pipeline again.
The Hartsville plant is one of 10 compressor stations pumping natural gas through pipelines between Middle Tennessee and the Gulf Coast.
Columbia Gulf Transmission operates a 4,200-mile natural gas pipeline across Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi and Louisiana, according to its Web site.
