Rebuilding In Trousdale County

HARTSVILLE, Tenn. - A tornado ripped through Trousdale County Tuesday night, destroying homes and igniting a blaze that was visible for several miles.

Several families are trying to rebuild after surviving both disasters.

Many of the families first felt the strong rains and winds from the tornado and then heard the explosion from the natural gas plant.

Now, they're trying to pick up the pieces and rebuild.

The Johnson family has lived in the community for four years. They witnessed a tornado rush over their mobile home and ran for shelter at a neighbor's home.

Nine people were crowded into a root cellar when the nearby gas plant exploded. The explosion knocked them down.

The Johnsons' home is severely damaged, but no one was seriously injured.

No one died from the gas explosion, but three people died when the tornado hit Hartsville.

More than 4,500 households in Trousdale County are still without power.
